Not So Grey-t...

So I’m beginning to wonder if being able to actually hear a show can make or break it. I’ve been able to see a couple of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy at the gym in the cardio room. But I’ve had to read the closed captioning because I don’t have a radio with which to tune in. Sorry, guys, but I can’t say I’m that impressed.

First of all, it took me quite a while to even figure out which one was Grey. See, I had always assumed it was Patrick Dempsey. But quickly figured out that was wrong. So who was it? Eventually (after 1-1/2 episodes), I figured it out.

Second, I’m not sure I understand the premise. By deduction, I’d have to say that this show concentrates more on the interns than the residents (unlike ER). Mostly, though, it seems like just another nighttime drama. Also unlike ER, it doesn’t seem to cover as much of the medical part of the drama. That’s probably okay for some; I like a little substance with my fluff. Admittedly, ER has its own tendencies to overdo the drama. Every season invariably has one episode centered around some great tragedy like a snow storm or train wreck or helicopter crash or shooting. I try to miss those.

Okay, okay, don’t get your panties in a wad. I have to say that usually I don’t enjoy the shows everyone else does. And the shows I do enjoy, most others don’t. I hated Seinfeld after the first couple of seasons. Really, how annoying and dishonest can four people be? Most reality shows are crap – including Survivor. Plus it really pisses me off that the guy who created the show took valid challenges like the Eco-Challenge and turned them into drama crap, too. I don’t watch The OC or Smallville. I think most of the CSI shows are strictly about how gruesome they can get and how glamourous can they make a cop’s life look. Some of the equipment they use is so unbelievably ridiculous and the dialog is awful.

So what do I watch? I prefer shows with a bit of witty banter. And I really like those that I have to actually sit and watch or I get lost. I have been known to multi-task during television programs. So currently the lineup includes The Gilmore Girls, Studio 60, The Office, Scrubs, and My Name is Earl. All of those except Studio 60 have proven there longevity for at least one season so I don’t doubt they’ll be around for a while. Sadly, I’m not sure if Studio 60 will last. It requires too much of the viewers. And when I checked the time slot last nite, sure enough, they had pulled it for whatever reason. What was in its place? Friday Night Lights. Of course. Because a show about high school football and scantily clad, over-developed teenagers is much more interesting than witty banter and dialog that makes you think.

OMG...I wax poetic and it doesn't publish my comment. Is this thing rigged?

Ok, clearly it is. What I was saying is that I love the show. I love the writing and the complexity of the characters. I love that even if you dislike a character or they do crazy stuff that pisses you off, they remain true to their character. I think there is witty banter (granted, not as quick as GG, but what is?). I love that it makes me feel. That I get stressed or angry or excited during the show. That I sobbed when Denny died. And I sobbed again when I watched the re-run. It's my #1 show.

Love it! It's one of 3 shows that I try to catch during the week. Gilmore Girls is the one, and the other is Men in Trees, the new Anne Heche show on Friday nights. As I'm now home Fridays before 9 (East Coast time people), I have really started to enjoy it. Excellent banter.
