Spring in Central-ish Texas

Nothing says Spring in Texas - well most of Texas - like bluebonnets. And we fulfilled the stereotypical requirement for parents in Texas this year and went in search of bluebonnets in which to bury our child and take pictures.

We made a bit of a day/road trip out of it though and drove to Brenham and followed a portion of the Bluebonnet Trail up to Washington-on-the-Brazos. There was one area just past Huntsville that had a group of cars and like-minded parents but we wanted somewhere that wouldn't require us to fend off 300 other parents to get a quick picture.

After lunch in Brenham we turned North to follow the Bluebonnet trail and there were patches a plenty but most were behind barbed wire and we weren't crazy enough for pictures to hop anyone's fence. The park didn't offer much except a little patch right behind the visitor's center, though we didn't figure that out until we'd walked about a mile in an attempt to get to an area one of the park rangers suggested might be good. It wasn't, but I did manage to get some good pictures along the way.

Unfortunately we looked like a couple of city slickers in street shoes because we had not intended to have to walk that far. And by the time we got back to the original patch, Ainsley was too tired to play a very good model so I didn't get to try out very many of the strategies I'd seen on other "real" photographers websites. But I'm not too disappointed in the results.

Because that wasn't a busy enough day for an almost three-year-old and pregnant lady, we stopped at the store on the way home to pick up some brats to take over to our friends' house to try out their new pool. It was Ainsley's first time in a big pool and she took to it very well. I suppose that means we need to consider swim lessons this summer.

I'll have to say that the water was still a bit cool at only 70 degrees (which may sound like heaven to some, but we're used to the 80 plus degree bath water in the Gulf down here) and with the wind made it very hard to stay in very long. And it would seem Ainsley's inherited my tendency to get the chattery teeth after being in the water for any extended period of time. We had a hard time getting her warmed up after she got out.

All in all, it was a good weekend.
