(someone commented on this topic this weekend, so I'm sharing)
When you are childless it is easy to laugh at statements like, "Kids are always sticky and have runny noses." Well, the joke's on you, because it is true. And it stresses me out a little when I go out in public with my daughter or am around people without kids.
Whilst going through the initial teething phase, which lasted about six months, Ainsley drooled like a leaky faucet. And I tried very hard at first to make sure every little drop of spittle was immediately wiped from her mouth. She must have gone through ten to 12 bibs a day. I'd wipe the spit off of anything she put in her mouth. Sometime in the last year, though, I gave up. Or maybe I've just become desensitized.
And nevermind the nose. That I still try to diligently keep up with, but Ainsley has allergies. While the Claritin has helped for the most part, she also gets somewhat frequent ear infections, which means gross, runny nose (not just the clear stuff). And wiping her nose occasionally requires me to have more skill than a champion cattle rustler.
Table foods have brought about the stickiness. Really, there's only so much you can wipe off, even with a wet cloth. And she's so not into this washing your hands thing yet. We do the best we can.
The important thing is that I do realize that non-parents don't always understand this. While the line of drool hanging off of my daughter's chin doesn't bother me anymore, the person holding her may have some qualms about it. So, my dear internet, I promise to attempt to keep it under control while you're holding her.
PS I also promise to not bring my kids to your house and decide to not parent them while visiting.

I'm not sure how anyone would mind any drippiness coming out of someone so cute and happy.
Oh yes...children are great at expelling all kinds of bodily fluids. Non-parents tend not to think it's cute for some reason. LOL Well, some of them. I have friends without children who still love them anyway.
AMEN to your PS!!!! If only those who need to read it, would.
