What to Do?

Tomorrow is my company's annual Thanksgiving luncheon. And, whereas we used to be volunteered to bring side dishes, several years ago my company decided to provide all of the dinner and we would just bring desserts - if we so chose. And, in full holiday spirit, there had to be a competition between those desserts brought. A panel of judges chosen by our office manager samples each entry and they decide on the top three.

Through some unforeseen fortune, I have placed the last two years. In 2005, I baked a simple, yet delectable carrot cake with cream cheese icing and lost to some chocolate cake on steroids. In 2006, I made tres leches (a.k.a. dessert crack) and lost to... JELLO CAKE. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but really? Jello cake over tres leches? Clearly, this guy played the nostalgia card because, come on, it's jello cake, people.

But this year I am at a total loss. The last two weeks have been harrowing what with Ainsley being sick. Consequently, she is no longer sleeping through the night and I am exhausted. So I haven't had much time to peruse my cookbooks and magazines for an ideal dessert. Until this morning, I had almost decided to just bow out this year, but then I found out the prizes are $100, $75, and $50 American Express gift certificates. Immediately I'm thinking, wow that would be great Christmas money or cash toward the camera I've been drooling over.

Any suggestions that won't take me all night to make? Does bread pudding seem like it could be a winner?

You can't go wrong with a chocolate tart- this recipe uses a thin crust but if you look on the web, you will find some with short-bread type crusts that are just deelish.

You can make them individual as well.

They are DEELISH.
HOPE YOU WIN!

I have a great recipe for apple turnovers that is very simple and is a crowd pleaser. I'll send it to you if it sounds like something you might want to do.

Thank you for the suggestions. I decided to not participate this year. And can you believe that the darn Jello cake won again this year? Stupid judges!

The jello cake is low class. You're Tres Leches was the best EVER!!!
