Baby Talk
So a few little things:
- We finally bought a bedding set a few weeks ago (courtesy of Nana and Papi S). I am very excited to be able to break it out someday. There's a little bit of red to go with the red that shows through on the distressed black crib we are (someday) going to order.
- So now the task is whether or not we should buy the $200 mattress that the store we are ordering the crib from recommends. Really? $200? Doesn't that seem like a lot? I started researching mattresses online yesterday to see if there's a huge difference in the less expensive ones. And I came across this article. How's that for a little paranoia? It's one of those battles now between my desire to do absolutely everything I can to ensure my baby is healthy and my innate desire to not be ridiculously overprotective. I have a feeling my fear of tempting fate will win. Gah.
- I feel I need to apologize to everyone out there for lying about the baby's name. We have more or less decided on a name, but we are not sharing. I've been telling people we don't know so they can't harrass it out of us. We had been sharing, selectively, but after someone commented that it was a black girl's name, we stopped. So one bad apple has spoiled the fun for everyone. Let me just say that the few people that I have known/heard of with the name are not black. In fact they were fair skinned, blonde women/girls. Rest assured that we will not be using Dijonnaise.

Gasp! No Dijonnaise?! And it should at least be a name that can be easily converted into a black girl's name for consistency's sake... Like mother, like daughter. And, for the record, my name was super popular the year I was born...for black girls. And I'm not. Black. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I'm like the opposite...heehee
Is Bubba a "black" name?
We were in the baby store looking at mattresses and this particular baby store only had expensive mattresses. Like more than we paid for our mattress. The sales lady, who was not very nice, said, "They develope their sleep patterns right away and the most important thing you can buy for your baby is the mattress." We told her we aren't spending more on a mattress for small little baby than we spent for our big selves. We chalked it up to living in Manhattan and went to the other baby store and bought a mattress for under $100 I believe. That's when we discovered a baby mattress will just fit into the trunk of a Ford Tauras (Taxi Cab).
We got coils. Don't get the foam. It's all a waste of money. They have you in a pickle because all they have to say is, "Well, you want the best for your baby don't you?" The truth is she'll be fine on the coil mattress, and do you remember anything about your crib?
Get the book, Baby Bargins, I think that's it. We have it, good book.
Everything Bubba said is right. Except we paid only $70 for our mattress. At BRU, but we could have gotten it at KMart, too.
People are strange about names, and everyone feels they can comment. Sorry but that sucks. As long as you like it, it's fine. People especially seem to have opinions about girl names. We didn't get anything on Andrew James, but there's not much to say....
The first name I chose for my daughter, my husband told me it sounded like a hooker name. Great. Thanks for ruining that for me. The name she ended up with is a different name that you don't hear often, but I love it!!
I miss belly measurements...
